Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry recently got the relief of concluding a custody battle between her and French-Canadian supermodel Gabriel Aubry.
The couple, according to sources, separated last May after four years together. Shortly after their split, they became embroiled in a custody battle concerning their three-year-old daughter Nahla after Aubry filed for joint physical and legal custody. That dispute recently ended, though, and the couple is apparently putting the incident behind them.
Sources didn't indicate the precise nature of the dispute, but they did say that Berry was concerned about leaving their daughter in Aubry's care for an extended period of time. Aubry reportedly disputed the actress' claims, saying her allegations were "untrue and irresponsible."
The actress told Extra TV: "When there's a child involved, it's a relief when you can resolve things in a good way." She also said, "Our issues were never about fighting for her. We both know a child needs both her parents." The actress further said that "sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse. We needed a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues."
Berry said that the custody battle made her last year "full of challenges." Earlier this year, she had to skip an appearance in the New Line rom-com on New Year's Eve due to custody litigation involving her daughter. More recently, custody proceedings forced her to forgo starring in a new Broadway production of Mountaintop in which she was set to act with Samuel L. Jackson, playing Martin Luther King, Jr.
