Our readers may have heard of the expensive and contentious divorce of Frank McCourt, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his wife Jamie. Frank McCourt was recently ordered to continue paying spousal support to his ex-wife and former Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt in the amount of $225,000 per month after he sought a modification.
Along with his divorce, Frank McCourt also currently faces the prospect of losing ownership over the Dodgers franchise. As the Associated Press points out in a recent article, the McCourt divorce has taken the Dodgers franchise as a centerpiece of contention. But the fate of the team will not be determined until the team is through with its bankruptcy case in Delaware.
The new spousal support order comes after Frank McCourt requested that the court reduce his monthly spousal support payments. He argued that since he paid his ex-wife approximately $7.7 million in the last year, her support payments should reflect the $5 million he brings in per year. His wife, however, insists that since he put over $44 million into his bank accounts since last June, there shouldn't be any issues paying her attorney's fees as well.
The former couple, who reportedly own multiple properties, recently sold a home near the Playboy Mansion. That money was placed in escrow and will now go toward paying the $412,159 per month the couples owns on their mortgages. According to sources, the couple will likely be selling more of their properties in the months to come.
The Dodgers franchise became an object of contention between the couple after a ruling last December which found a marital agreement giving Frank McCourt sole ownership over the Dodgers was invalid.
Such are the divorce issues that come up for the rich and famous.
